When I took a course for my carry permit, the instructor outlined these 3 steps. NO JOKE.
- Get a gun and learn gun safety.
- Get a small yappy dog who will notify you when it’s time to use said gun.
- Make sure you empty all the bullets in your gun into the intruder.
I left without getting the conceal carry permit. I am not sure the above scenario is something I really want to prepare for, despite the potential risks gun owners will point out for not being adequately protected. I am aware that if I am not willing to shoot another person it is way more dangerous to own a gun than not.
I actually love shooting guns (not hunting), and would have gotten the permit just to make buying and transporting my gun to the range that much easier, however the last straw was when we learned about dealing with police.
Apparently when you get your carry permit, from then on, if you are ever pulled over for a traffic violation and the officer types in your license plate, he will have a huge warning sign flash on his display. Conceal carry permit holder; potential firearm in the car. This makes the police officer who is used to dealing with criminals and does not know you, very nervous. The last thing I want to do is make a police officer nervous in this way.
Now that I live in rural GA, it may be time to look into getting that permit again. Around here if you do not have a carry permit it makes the officers suspicious.
What is your opinion on the matter?
